Taylor and I have been working closely with an absolutely phenomenal design shop, Artua, to develop some phenomenal icons for YNAB 3 (which will be phenomenal).
Artua exceeded our expectations at every turn. They were responsive to (what little) feedback we had, and delivered stunning icons with a turnaround you’d expect with your breakfast order at Wafflehouse — not with such high-caliber design!

How do these phenomenally (4th time in this post I’ve used that word) stunning icons look in the app? Phenom–Fantastic:
To outline all of the reasoning behind the gorgeous details in these icons would be like my 10th grade English teacher breaking Hamlet down formulaically. You just shouldn’t do that with art.
Hat tip (no pun intended) to Max Ernst (1891-1976) for the inspiration on this post title.

Great job, it really fits the look of the application. It’s almost a tragedy such detailed images have to be shrunk down!

When it comes to software I use on a regular basis, I for one appreciate a starring at a nice, beautiful, interface. Thanks for the attention to the little details. Icons are perfect. I also love all the apple-friendly visual features in the demos (the yellow popup notes, the little traction lines on areas that can be moved, etc.).

Jesse,
These look fantastic! You didn’t include the most important one though – the application icon. It’s the first one everyone will see before they see any of these three. Hopefully you’ve already hired these very talented designers to give the same treatment to the YNAB app icon that they did to these three icons. I’m expecting you’re saving the best for last though.

I use YNAB3 on a daily basis with download files in folders on my desktop. I would like to use these icons to replace the normal “folder” icons. Can I? and How do I do it??..Thanx…
