Hey YNAB Team,
I have been married 25 years and money (or should I say the management and accounting of money) has been a sore spot all along. I'm a detailed person, but in this critical area I found myself flying by the seat of my pants and not doing too well. I can't underscore enough the amount of strain it can put on a marriage to ignore careful management of your money. Interestingly, in an effort to finally get a grip on things late this year (think New Year's resolution), I was reading some reviews of the new Quicken software for 2010 when I happened upon a review by someone who suggested that, although they thought Quicken was funcitonal, they really believed YNAB was more helpful for a host of reasons. It prompted me to investigate and, boy howdy, am I glad I did! It has only been a short time, but I already know where every penny is and am on track to be one month ahead soon. Most importantly, it has cemented in me the excitement to pursue control of our budget and the freedom it will undoubtedly provide. I am really impressed with the amazing level of support you offer and look forward to a long and profitable relationship. Thanks Jesse and crew!!! I'm truly grateful.

@Lisa,
 Absolutely. You can track at a very specific level, or be much more broad -- it all depends on what your needs are.

I have a question and maybe somebody can help me. I haven't used a budgeting or financial tracking program in over a decade. Needless to say, I've got a real mess on my hands.
I want to be able to track where all of my money goes. Like, will this program allow me to break out how the miscellaneous cash is allocated/spent? Rather than tracking that a credit card payment is made, will it allow me to track what category the credit card purchases belong to?
Thanks!

I must say that I agree with Ed. I started as an avid Quicken user during the 90s and loved it, but only recently decided that it was good at reporting and tracking, but I needed something more especially when it came to budgeting. I looked at a bunch of different software and nothing seemed to fit the budgeting bill until I saw YNAB. Once I finally tried it, I was hooked! I love the forcasting and planning aspects and the YNAB rules made so much more sense (especially the live on last months income) when it came to budgeting. Now, I almost don't worry about what I spend because I know that rather than recording, we have already planned and are following our plan. And if we go over in a category (i.e., mainly groceries and dining out), well that is when we "roll with the punches" and take it out of next month. We don't beat ourselves up and give up, but adjust the budget for next month to meet our spending or do everything we can to cut back in that category. Thanks for an awesome program!
