YNAB for iPhone listed #1 for What's Hot in the App Store!

YNAB for iPhone has the #1 spot for “Hot” in the App Store. I knew those sexy icons would pay off some day.

And this is even before we push out 1.1 (which is in beta at the moment, including transfers, flags, password protection, and a persistent sync password option).

Woot! Thanks everyone for your support!

And to the left of “Bruce Lee: Dragon Warrior”. This obviously means that Apple considers YNAB hotter than Bruce Lee:

  1. Great news. Any plans to develop an app for Droid phones? They are catching on very fast and will soon be just as popular as the Iphone. I for one would love a Droid app.

  2. Jesse, i had emailed a request for a refund on the iphone app, did you receive it? I’ve found your application is great, but the iphone app is just to hard to keep spouses in sync with it. It needs to be able to sync “over the cloud” before I think this will be useful for us. It is just too hard to keep 2 phones and the computer in sync with each other.

In addition, I do think some “funding” category for each check would be helpful. I used to use Mvelopes, and the concept of taking and allocating each of the funds towards the budgeted amounts works great. I think YNAB with a “funded” category, not just budgeted, would help those of use that don’t get paid once a month to monitor the categories daily. (just my 10 cents).

  3. No splits with 1.1 then?

I didn’t realize how many of my ynab transactions were splits until I started inputting all of them in my iPod. I end up turning on ynab pretty often now to adjust my transactions and make them splits. So hopefully this can be the next priority!

One other thing: I imagine the syncing over the cloud thing just isn’t feasible at this point but maybe you could look into implementing some type of dropbox support? I know they recently made it so other apps could access dropbox files. I currently have my ynab desktop save file in dropbox to keep my budget synced across mine and my wife’s computers. Maybe the ynab for iPhone could modify a dropbox file or something and that could act as the “cloud.” Not sure if it’s technologically feasible but could be a free solution.

  4. As a new YNAB user I’m really enjoying the iPhone app on the go. But splits is a must have, reports and the ability to change/add categories would be superb aswell. Then the iPhone app could replace the desktop app for a short period of time, for example on a vacation or something.

  5. @Eric Splits are a high priority for us. First though, we wanted to improve security and sync. :)

And using Dropbox as our “cloud” is currently our favored option. We are very excited about their mobile API, and have already been investigating it. Thanks for the suggestion!

@Boomer: Due to the immense popularity of our iPhone app, we are indeed looking at developing a Droid app. We’ll have more details as we progress!

@Sheldon: As you no doubt know, by default, we ask you to first tell YNAB which month you want the money to go to, and then you “fund” each category on the budget screen from this pool of available money. If you want to fund directly to a category, you can do that by categorizing inflow transactions as a particular category you want to fund, and that will fund it as I think you’re asking us to.

  6. I don’t know if this is possible but I know a lot of people have blackberry phones and I’d love to see an app for blackberry. I love my phone but with all the great apps (like this one) that iphone and droid users get I’m starting to get envious.

  7. I’d really like to second the comment for a Droid version. I’m not an Apple fan but am close to buying a Droid phone. YNAB would be my tipping point for upgrading. Having YNAB with me always would be such a life-saver!

  8. I’ll add another request for an Android version.
I have a G1 running Android 2.1 eclair. I’ve tried Mint, but it’s not so great.

  9. Wouldpurchase YNAB id they had Droid App. You always have your phone with you so its much easier to records transactions in this manner. You not likely going to remember all transactions to input later.

    VOTE FOR DROID APP PLEASE

  10. I also haven’t yet pulled the trigger on YNAB because there is no Android app.

I wonder how many people out there haven’t purchased YNAB yet because there is no Android app?

Please roll out the YNAB Android app soon! :)

    Thanks

  11. (I’m the lead programmer of YNAB) I’ve posted this a few other places, but wanted to post it here too. We are investigating our options for Android (and other mobile platforms). We don’t have anything to officially announce yet, but we agree that you should be able to have YNAB on your Android!

I’m a tiny bit biased, but I would encourage you to go ahead and purchase YNAB and start your budgeting journey today even though we don’t yet have an Android app. Thousands of people were budgeting with YNAB before we had an iPhone app, and I think they’d give you the same advice. ;)

  12. Thanks for your responses Taylor. I learned about YNAB from a review of the mint application which I was considering for my Android based MyTouch phone. However, after reading about your YNAB app, I will give it a try on my PC at home…but, would most definitely be interested in a version to host on my phone. Thanks again for your posts!

  13. I recently downloaded YNAB trail, and I love it. I am really disappointed there is not a droid app available yet – droid phones outnumber iphones now apparently (don’t know if it’s true, but there are certainly on the rise)

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get a droid YNAB app out pronto – I’ll put it in my budget!

It seems this is a hot topic, and I read above that you are looking into developing a droid app, but that was posted back in June – so what’s the news?!

  14. Yay! I recently got a new droid (after 4 years with a blackberry) and was bummed to see that there wasn’t a YNAB droid app yet, so I went googling and found this post. Super excited to hear about an upcoming app! Now code faster so I don’t have to wait too long ;) lol
