If you’re more of the video-loving type:
We made a whole ton of fixes, some small improvements, and managed to get in two fairly cool features.
Budget Row Highlighting
Let’s face it, eyes grow tired of tracking along lines. Now, when you hover over a row on the Budget, we highlight the row. It makes it easier on the eyes to connect balances to their categories. It was a nice touch, and I’m glad it’s there.
Filter Out Reconciled Transactions
There’s now a little filter toggle next to the ‘Dates’ filter with each account register. You can hide your reconciled transactions so that what you see is truly all you need to worry about. This cleans up the register for each of your accounts tremendously. Used it last night with our budgeting and I love it.
(On that note, check out the search feature, where you can type ‘Is:’ and see a whole budget of true/false searches to run, ‘cleared and reconciled, only unreconciled, only reconciled, etc.)
Campaigning for Updates
I’m going to try and do better about making these improvements known. Our standard procedure for the past five years is to release major upgrades every once in a while (for which we charge) and then, in the meantime, issue minor free updates that often have very cool features in them (not just bug fixes!). So this is one of those free updates. There are more to come!
Ian’s currently working on squashing a performance bug mainly related to some Windows software called ‘Webroot’ that is making YNAB c.r.a.w.l. It’s his highest priority.
Taylor (just hopped off the phone with him) is profiling the Budget screen at the moment. For you non-software cool people, that just means he’s trying to make it faster; faster loading, faster interacting, etc.
Word Of Mouth
Thank you all for spreading the word about YNAB! We really appreciate the vote of confidence you’ve given us, when telling your friends and family about YNAB. We’ll continue doing our best to earn your kind words.
Could someone please confirm my understanding that after I enter a bill payment in YNAB (bank account) I would have to go to another system in order to make that payment online? Is there anyway that I can enter the transaction once and accomplish both tasks, ie, record a transaction in YNAB and make the bill payment online? I am hesitant to mention the program Quicken because I like YNAB so much but I know that with one entry I can accomplish both tasks, record bill payment and pay the bill online through either my bank or Quicken itself.
Many Tks
I don’t foresee us offering integrated billpay with YNAB any time soon. My end goal would be to have people autopay virtually every bill anyway, living on last month’s income.
Tks for your response.
that’s what I do.
I use Quicken to pay bills and keep a register and use YNAB for budgeting.
I don’t mind entering two transactions, since most of tranasactions in both programs are on schedules and they auto post.
Thank you.
Not sure it’s just webroot; I’m running Windows 8 and just using the built-in Defender, and it’s painful. Not bad when first launch, but after importing transactions, YNAB seems to just be hammered. Hadn’t thought to look in the AV’s direction, but I should have.
Thanks Jesse.
didn’t know about that Filter Out Reconciled Transactions function.
Hi Jesse,
I see the “C” shortcut to mark the transaction doesn’t work after this update?? has this feature been removed?? I asked the same question a different post.. but didn’t get a response. Thanks
It works for me. I’d send in a support request for it.
I’m having the same issue. Still haven’t seen a reply.
Great update, I like the budget row highlighting when you hover over the row. On a quick side note any word on when we will see an Android Lite version?
oh, would love to see an Android Lite version.
Great update! I love budget row highlighting, but would suggest a tweak. As is, the line is highlighted when your cursor hovers over it, but the highlighting disappears the instant you move the arrow cursor away, even if your typing cursor in one of the boxes in the row (selected for typing). How about if the latter case is true the highlighting persists (perhaps in a different color than the hover highlighting). This would be useful when, for instance, I’m looking at a budget row but also writing an email about it in another window–and many other instances.
Great work, and thanks!
What’s the difference between cleared and reconciled? I’ve never understood why I would need to be able to reconcile my account when I can mark stuff cleared.
Cleared means that individual transaction has shown up and is correct. Reconciled means that the running balance (and hence, all transactions thus far) are correct. Similar statements, but Reconciled is further reaching.
When will we see support for horizontal trackpad scrolling in Reports. It would be nice to not have to use the scrollbars and be able to smoothly scan a number of months.
Did not receive the update!
You’ll want to start up YNAB, go to Help -> Check for Updates. It’ll let you know there’s one available!
Hi Jesse,
When will we be able to down load the new 4.1.127?
John
You can download it directly here if you weren’t prompted w/in the software.
Hi Jesse~
I bought YNAB earlier this year and I still haven’t been able to figure out how to update it to the YNAB 4 version. Could you help me figure this out? Thanks.
Sincerely, Jenny
Hi Jenny, you can download version 4 directly. It won’t update from YNAB 3. They’re separate installations.
Any plans to allow users to allocate income to future months? Right now I’m fully funded for this month and next month, and I’m expecting a little more income before the month is over . . . and probably a lull in the winter. It would be really helpful for people with seasonal income, or seasonal expenses, or rental property with unreliable tenants, to be able to allocate income beyond just next month.
