Opening Screen

Opening Screen

Postby jmarsh07 » Tue Jul 31, 2012 6:58 pm

Appologies if this has been covered. I searched the forums and couldn't find a reference to my question. I have an Android - Motorola Bionic. I've noticed on the iPhone version of the app, that two totals re in the first screen. The Budget total and the Accounts total are both there. Below that is the "Add transaction" item. On my Android, I only see the Accounts total. There is no total for the Budget. Is that intentional? How can I see both totals on my Android phone? Thanks.

You can not see both totals on your Android phone. I'm not sure how the totals are calculated, or what the difference is between the two even. But, there has been many users who do not like seeing them on their mobile app, and I would not be surprised if they were removed all together at some point in the future.

1. CLEARED BALANCE match ACTUAL BALANCE
2. NEVER OVERBUDGET: Available to Budget = 0
3. Adjust for OVERSPENDING immediately!
4. MAKE DECISIONS BASED ON CATEGORY BALANCES!

I really wish the total amounts DID NOT show up on the phone app. Actually for 2 different reasons....I really don't want to pull out my phone to add a transaction and have everyone around see the total of my accounts. Secondly, YNAB is always telling us not to look at our bank account; but to look at the budget to know how much we have in each category. If I see a total of $8,000 when I go to my app, I may be more tempted to spend money I really do not have.
PLEASE REMOVE THE ACCOUNT $$ FROM THE PHONE APP!!
Thank you very much......

+1 on removing it. It has no good use and I don't want it visible from the opening screen.

I vote for removing the opening screen altogether. It's one more step between me and my data, and doesn't add anything useful. Just open to the budget screen and let me get to accounts through a tab, the action bar, or an overflow menu.

This makes so much sense. I use my mobile app in public and with friends. I'd rather them not peeping at my whole balance.

I don't mind the accounts total .. but I agree it serves no use to me. Especially now that I've stuck in my off-budget accounts.

I actually look at the totals on the iOS app, to see whether I've synced to the latest transactions in my budget before I leave the house. If they weren't there, I'd probably re-register the budget more often just to be sure.

On my phone, the accounts total is displayed in very small type. Even with my glasses on, I can't read it from more than about three feet away. So I'm a bit puzzled by the privacy concerns, especially because this screen is only displayed for a few seconds while I get to where I want to go.

And I do want to be met by a screen that allows me to pick whether I want to look at my budget or accounts or to add a transaction with a single tap, without entering one of them and having to pick another.

I don't want account totals in my opening. Not for privacy reasons, but because they are superfluous to my requirements and quite frankly pointless.

For me, I want to have shopping categories listed. So when you set up the app, you choose which master categories are relevant for when you are mobile. Only those mobile categories would then be listed when I open the app. I view the applicable sub-category balance to check I have enough there to spend, select it, then a list of accounts for me to put the transaction against and viola.

That's what I want. Budget category balances on the opening screen ftw!

 Without my reading prescription everything had to be held at arm's length!!

I meant, of course, that other people wouldn't be able to see it from more than a few feet away, so it's hard to see how anyone would see your account totals unless they were peeking right over your shoulder.

And as for the account total being a temptation to spend--my account total is in the red, so it's more of a reminder not to spend! I'd assume that anyone with a positive net worth has used the program long enough to be almost immune to the temptations that it would present to me.

I proposed (here - android-f88/mobile-app-feature-request-t17580.html) having the accounts section have a couple of bullets underneath with the budgeted amount and the buffer amount. I'm not worried about people seeing my totals, I suppose if they wanted to work hard enough they could decide I had enough money for them to steal my identity but that's a pretty remote chance (it doesn't make any difference if your bank total is displayed on the home screen or in the accounts screen anyway, there's the same amount of opportunity for someone to sneak a peek). At any rate, I would like to know the buffer amount at the home screen if nothing else.
