What exactly is a Kindle version? I had a look at it, but I couldn't make out if it would read on my eBook reader or not. It seemed to be aimed at iPod and I don't have one of those.

Kindle is a book reader that Amazon sells. I am under the impression that a kindle version can only be read on a Kindle reader.

That is correct. Currently Kindle formated eBooks can only be read on a Kindle device from Amazon. I wish they would make a Kindle Reader though... 'cause I would love to just buy thier eBooks. The LAST thing I need is another thing to carry around with me! Well... and I don't have an extra $359 for one; even though the devices are pretty sweet.

There is a kindle app now for the Iphone and Itouch. They are electronic books, magazines and blogs from Amazon. The neat thing is they are delivered wirelessly.

There is a "KINDLE READER". Its called "kindle for PC" they also have kindle for blackberry, ipod, ipad, android. Once you get an ereader it will be difficult to go back. They are wonderful. These apps for the various devices are free. The kindle is now down to $114.
