Add photo to transaction

I think it will be nice if you'll be able to add a photo (receipts) to iPhone transactions.

I too would like this.

Even better if it could pull the amount, payee, title, etc. from the receipt.

I agree. It would be nice to add receipts to transactions to see an itemized list of what was purchased.

Would you need to be able to 'train' the iPod which fields are where on the receipt for this to work?

To the OP, can you expound on why it would be nice to have photos of receipts stored with YNAB on your iPhone?

One of my thoughts was for warranty, being able to view the receipt months after the purchase took place.
Another is to be able to see what was included in the transaction.

For those of us that like to do all manual data entry, it is a good backup for mistakes. I used to use other software and photo receipts saved me a couple of times for warranty purchases too. I was able to forward the company a copy of the receipt from my iPhone and all was good. Without it I am terrible at tracking and keeping them for warranty.

+1 Receipts for warranty or return reasons would be great. At least a feature to integrate my Evernote receipt scans with my YNAB data, that would be amazing!!!

I've been using a different program called EasyMoney for Andriod until YNAB for Andriod comes out. The attaching a picture of your receipt is one feature I don't think I could live without since I've had it.

I don't think you would necessarily need to pull info from receipts automatically, but it would be nice to have copy for quick reference warranty, tax reasons etc.

Another pro for it would be good in cases of typos or computer glitches at banks when you get charged twice or are charged the wrong amount. You can quickly double check if you made the mistake or the bank did.

It is also great for looking at individual items you purchased to reference prices paid. Helpful for price lists when deciding if something is really on sale or not.

I use an app/website call lemon.com that allows me to take a photo of the receipt and then uploaded. The website OCRs the receipt and then I can search for it later in case of warranty issues.

I would love to see this also... You beat me to the request. I LOVE YNAB, and the ability to snap a shot of your receipt after you input the transaction on your iPhone would be an awesome feature. Having this ability to then sync to the desktop version and have an electronic record of every purchase would be HUGE when it comes to refunds, warranties, and the like. I considered purchasing the "Neat Receipts" scanner, only for saving electronic copies of receipts. But incorporated into YNAB, a software I am rapidly learning that I cannot live without, would be beyond ideal. I purchased YNAB a few years back and Jesse, you have done an amazing job developing this software into a force to be reckonned with in the world of financial software. Well done.

Hope to see this feature soon! Then there will be no more "lost the receipt honey" at our house! ;)

Now that I'm in the habit of depositing checks by taking a picture with my phone, I wonder if there's a photo app that would organize photos of receipts in a useful way. Personally, I don't need the app to contain the photos because as others have said, I want them for recordkeeping, warranties, or returns, and don't want to bloat up my YNAB file with JPGs.

I'm on Android, but if I find such an app that's in iPhone too I'll let you know.

I use JotNot Pro on my iPhone. It's very helpful and you save it right to Dropbox. Personally I wouldn't want to bloat YNAB for this feature.

A good compromise is to have the feature but just don't use it, or turn it off. I think it could be set to take low quality pics that wouldn't bloat it too much.
