I am unsure of the rest of the world but most banks in South Africa can send SMS notifications whenever transactions happen on an account. I do not think the SMS's format is standardised and that would probably be the biggest problem - getting all banks to follow a unified standard (Hey, I said this is not a small request
). If such a standard could be enforced the mobile phone app could read the SMS directly and make transactional entries prompting the user for additional info if necessary... This would make the balances as real-time as possible...I must admit now that I do not have an iPhone - I am waiting with great anticipation for the Windows Mobile version... The closer we get to real-time data, the better we respond to it.
