You don't have to be in your first month to have a "Doh" moment. I have them all the time. OTOH, I've gotten pretty good at searching the forums, which is a skill all of its own, so I often don't have to air them in public.

Good for you for being able to pay cash for your new computer so early in your YNAB 'career,' and welcome to the forums!

I have a several categories like this, and I'd really like a report that shows me how the balances have fared month to month. These are categories in which, for the most part, I'm not spending, just accumulating, though I do occasionally "take" from them if I have to whack-a-mole. I know I can just scroll across the budget screen, but I'd love to be able to highlight just a few categories and look at month-end balances in a report. From what I can see, the available reports only show *spending*, not budget balances. Am I missing something?

I never like to request something, especially since I know how busy folks are developing (and improving YNAB 4). That said, the ability to review "budgeted amounts" in the reporting feature would be a welcome addition.
Every year, 4-5 million pets are killed in animal shelters. Nationwide, 60% of dogs and 70% of cats entering animal shelters never make it out alive. Adopt from your local animal shelter today and save a life...

I have an on budget savings account which I nicknamed My Savings. I created a master category in YNAB called Savings Goals and then created categories for things I am saving up for. The total of the Savings Goals always matches the amount in My Savings and I can see at glance what each dollar is sitting there for.

One of the YNAB videos covers savings and I had a big light bulb moment when it asked - What are you saving for? I just kept adding to it and then spending from it because I didn't really know what it was for - I just knew I was supposed to have some money in savings. Since setting it up in YNAB and giving each dollar a job, I have only added to it :)
