New month did not sync

Yesterday evening (8/31), I zeroed out my category balances in August, moving the balances into September. When I opened YNAB today, I expected YNAB would sync that info to my iPhone, but it didn't. My budget still said $0.00 in every category. I tried a few things to try to get it to sync and update my iPhone, but ended up having to zero out every category in September and reenter the amounts.

Is this expected? Should I have waited until it was officially September before moving my balances? I don't want to have to reenter things again next month, so if I have to, I will just wait for the 1st of October to roll my balances forward.

No, this isn't expected. I zeroed some categories on 8/31 and moved the money to other categories and it synced just fine.

What do you mean when you say you moved the balances into September? Did you zero August and then rebudget that amount in September?

I think this may be the same thing (or at least similar) that happened to me this month. After checking YNAB in my iPod touch (full app) on Sept. 1, I noticed that some of the category balances did not match what was shown on YNAB on my desktop.

I found two things that corrected the total:
1) Making a transaction on the app using that category, it seemed to recalculate and showed the correct category balance.
2) I changed the September budgeted amount on the desktop version which then also "refreshed" the amount on the iPod and it showed the correct total.

Anyone else seeing this?

I had the same issue for September. I uninstalled and re-installed the app and everything is fine now.

I'm having the same issue. Except I didn't zero anything out on 8/31. I just expected my new september budget amounts to show up. They don't I'm still getting August's numbers. If I open a category and resave an old transaction, it updates that category, but I really don't want to do that for all my categories. This is definitely a bug with cloud sync.

Did you try resyncing your budget?

I know they just released a new beta version that will hopefully resolve this issue.

This sounds like a bug indeed. Please send in your log files so I can take a closer look. Go to the settings screen on the iPhone app and select "Send logfile". Manually add "case 57972" to the subject line, so I can cross reference the submissions with this issue. Thanks!

Just sent you the log files (with the case number in the subject line). I can confirm, if I make a change to the month's budget in a specific category on the computer, it will force an update on the phone. Likewise, if I update the phone (by adding a transaction or simply re-saving an existing transaction, it updates that category only. But the changes have to be category by category.

Thanks for sending in the logs. I'll look into this.

OK, so the data is there and the app just didn't trigger the recalculation. A quicker workaround would be to make sure there are no unsynced transactions on the iPhone and then re-register for your cloud budget on the iPhone by going to Settings -> Sync Method -> Dropbox -> Tap on your budget. On the lite version it would be Settings -> Budgets -> Tap on your budget.

Question: Was this just a September 2012 fluke? Or is going to recur each month. As both an accountant, and a software developer in the past, I know both are possible, but think the latter most likely! ;-)

Good question. As far as we can tell, it's only happening to a small percentage of users, and I weren't able to reproduce it yet, so it's kind of tricky to track it down. The next version will add some potential fixes and a lot more logging in this area, so if 2.0.3 is out before October, chances are good that it either doesn't happen again, or that we know exactly why it's happening by then.
