Thumb drive in the Laundry

Postby lebdavidson2 » Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:48 am

I didn't check my pockets carefully enough before washing this morning. My flash drive went through the washer but not the drier. Is there any chance it survived? How would I check without running the risk of frying my computer?
Thanks

My wife has done this to me three times, just shake the thumb drive to remove excess water and let it sit for a couple of days just to make sure it's dry. As I write this i'm drying mine out from sunday's washing LOL :D

I've read that you can help dry out electronics but putting it in rice - the rice absorbs moister. Read about it on lifehacker.

The water shouldn't have hurt it (unless there was an electrical charge in your washer). Make sure it is 100% dry before you try and use it again!

Been there done that. Did it to my husband's and it ended up just fine. let it dry out and all should be well. This also works for cameras, fyi, as I learned the hard way when my 1yo son decided to play submarine with my Canon point & shoot at the pond...

I had one swim in hot soup that spilled filling the bottom of my lunch box and after a long time drying it worked fine. :)

I've also done this. I washed my husband's thumb drive and only noticed after it had come out of the dryer! Worked just fine though.

I washed my hubby's Ipod and although it's a little bent around the edges, it still works.

Mine is on my keychain. My keys come apart in specific ways so I don't leave this or that at work or home. So far, so good.
