ING Canada Referral thread (Was: Would you like $50?)

Postby RG2010 » Wed Jul 11, 2012 5:39 pm

It's easy!!
This is a great way to earn some extra cash and help each other at the same time. 8)

Summer BONUS! Ends August 31, 2012
http://www.ingdirect.ca

You can get $50 when you open an account with ING Canada using my Orange Key and deposit $100 or more. That's it!
My Orange Key: 15750093S1

For the summer only, ING will actually deposit $50 into both accounts! You would open the account and deposit $100 (min) and then ING would put $50 into your account and mine. Both will benefit. To put a different spin on it, you are investing $100 and getting a 50% ROI!!

  This can help build your buffer, EF, pay off debt, increase your fun money...anything you want to use it for!

When you open an account, you will get an Orange Key to share also, potentially getting more than $50!
(You need to have an account at a Canadian financial institution in order to be able to open an account at ING Canada)

The YNAB team wanted me to post the following: Other folks can post their ING referral links in this thread too, but please don't create separate posts for these requests. Thanks!

Edited by Taytay on July 11, 2012: Moved to personal finance forum, renamed to be more explicit.
GOAL:
2012: Change my spending habits and stick to YNAB budget for the remainder of the year.... :-)

The deal for US citizens isn't nearly as sweet, but if you were thinking of opening an ING account anyway, shoot me a PM and I'll get you hooked up with a $25 bonus.

This is better than the drop box thread?

EDIT: ING Canada may be sold.... I dont' recommend signing up for this bank until its sorted out, as it would be a lot of work to switch & have to switch again shortly after.

My Orange Key: 36204620S1

Similar to my drop box post..

I think using mine gets you a chance to ride on a unicorn!

34428421S1 is me :D

And I have to say, I love ING. I switched to the THRiVE chequing account as soon as it became available (actually, I think I was in the first wave of people granted early access), and have not even remotely missed my old bricks & mortar bank.

Just a bit more information:
You could get up to $2000!
ING does not charge any service fees and you don't have to keep a "minimum" balance!
Better interest rates than big banks!

Note that ING Canada today confirmed that they may be sold -- it's not definite, but usually they don't make such announcements unless a sale is in the works. This is all due to fallout from the European bailout of ING's parent company in the Netherlands; they were forced to sell off their US bank (which went to Capital One, which made a lot of customers angry although so far Capital One hasn't added any fees or made other changes that I'm aware of).

Here in Canada there are a number of potential buyers, including TD, Banque Nationale, and others. Capital One operates in Canada but I'd be surprised if they buy ING Direct Canada (and hope they don't, as Capital One has a terrible reputation).

Anyway, I think a lot of ING customers, including myself, will be anxiously awaiting news of the sale and see if anything changes. I love ING and I love not paying fees!

Dang it brad!

I was with PC for close to 8 years before I switched to ING about a year ago.
If the sale goes bad I would probably just switch back to PC...

I also couldn't refer any one to them until it was sorted. My previous post has been updated.

My guess/hope is that National Bank (Banque Nationale) will be the new owner, which makes sense on a lot of fronts (ING already uses Banque Nationale's ATM network). Analysts have pointed to Banque Nationale as one of the most likely buyers -- they're not a bad bank, and I was with them for 6 years before switching to ING.

To be accurate, they both use The Exchange Network, which is owned by an American company I believe.

True. But in practice that translates to "if you want to make a fee-free ATM withdrawl from your ING account, you have to go to a Banque Nationale ATM." There are a few other banks in Canada that use The Exchange, but not many -- it's actually one of the drawbacks of ING in fact and a lot of us were hoping they'd switch to a more widely available network.

Every credit union, pretty much, uses the Exchange Network.

There are two ING ATMs within a few blocks of where I work, but I've also gone to HSBC. I think I tried to use a National Bank ATM, once, and they were out of envelopes. :P

Every credit union outside of Québec, that is. ;-)

Desjardins doesn't use it, unfortunately, so my only choice here is National Bank. That's fine when I'm in my neighbourhood (I have three branches within walking distance) but it's nowhere near as common as Desjardins. The closest TD branch is nearly an hour's journey from my house, so at least it's better than that!
