I think I am really going to love this!

Postby Trakeveth » Fri Feb 12, 2010 7:33 pm

I just started using YNAB in the last few days. I have always tried to keep a handle on my family's budget and I thought I was doing alright, but in just a few days YNAB has made it clear to me that I was guessing at too many things and leaving too many things up to chance. There is no way that we would have ever gotten ahead that way!

Just in setting up my accounts and budgeting for this very first month my eyes have been opened. Take, for example, gas for our cars. Sure, I knew that we spent money on it, but how much to budget for it? I had no idea! We just use our debit card to fill up at the pump whenever we need it and never give it another thought. So many categories are like that. I was just assuming that the money would be there. Not anymore!

A lot of things have changed in the past 18 months for us. I became self-employed so my salary changed and we had to take on the responsibility of paying quarterly withholding taxes, etc., etc. Money started to feel a little too tight for my comfort level around the holidays so I decided this month I needed to change the way I was doing things. I am so glad that I found YNAB! Now I feel like there is hope for me to get this ship back on course. :D
Determined to become financially fit!

Welcome! Laying out the budget & accounts in YNAB is, I promise, one of the first of many 'Ah-Hah' moments you'l have as you get into the program. Browse around, and by all means, if any questions arise, come on back and ask....you'll find we're a very friendly, helpful bunch around here :)

It sure is a powerful feeling to tell your money what to do rather than having it jump willy-nilly out of your wallet. I am in month 2 and am hoping for the 90 day mark when things really settle down (no more surprise rainy day fund pop-ups -- I hope.)
