Can you spell BUFFER?

Postby Mudie » Fri May 09, 2008 5:46 am

Because it was the right thing to do to get out from
Under my
Former money plan that I was
Forever messing up. I know that I won't
Ever miss those days of bounced checks and panic.
Right now feels pretty good.

Yes, we finally made it. We have a full buffer and the next 5 paychecks this month (3 for me and 2 for my wife) will be entered as Primary. Thankfully I have some overtime so I know that there will be enough money to cover all of our expenses in June. This morning I sat down and paid ALL of the rest of our bills for this month with the money on hand. I now know how it feels to Budget twice as effective, in half the time. :D

Freedom! :D

Congratulations, Steve!

I am about half-way to my fully funded buffer ... hope to get there by July or August at the latest!

Can't wait until I can experience the freedom that you feel today ... but, already YNAB has made things SOOOOOOO much better around our house! We are on top of the spending and controlling our money ... thanks Jesse for YNAB!!!

S-W-E-E-T!!

Welcome to the Buffer Bunch! I'm not a poet, but I'll give this a shot. Feel free to add another verse.

"Once there was a lady
And her handsome man
Mired in debt and bills.
Then, one day they
Found a budget and
Finally saved their buffer,
And that's how they became
The Buffer Bunch!"

WooHoo Steve!! That is so exciting, but I guarantee you will get another thrill every time you make that Primary income entry and then check your budget page and see that figure for June's Available creeping up.

Well done, a long way off for me, but keep me updated on how it makes a difference, as that will keep me going towards my goal.

Well done again

Hi Steve

Thanks for the links, I read them all, very interesting.

I think I am a classic case. Hit 40, no savings, spend all my money each month, most months not having enough to get through without running up debt,I could go on.

At least with YNAB I have control, but now it's harder in a way, because I can see how it all should work and even how much better things could be, but even though I can see it, I cannot reach it yet!

I am now living within my means most months, the odd slip, but I now need to turn this into either paying off debt or getting the buffer in place.

At the very beginning of using YNAB I even considered a loan to get the buffer, that to me says everything.

Stories like yours give me the patience to carry on, as I know I can get there, maybe not quickly, but I should try and enjoy the trip and not just concentrate on the final destination, sometimes the trip is just as good.
