What a goofball!

Postby Bee&Bea » Thu May 24, 2012 10:41 pm

This is not really a success story, just a comment about being careful how transactions are entered. I entered my paycheck today, available next month. Then, since it's my last one of the month (unless we get paid on Thursday instead of Friday next week), I decided to work on June's budget. I was confused why the starting buffer was so much lower than previous months. I figured it must have to do with the cash I took out of my paychecks that I wasn't accounting for anymore. I finally found the problem, I entered it as an outflow instead of an inflow. Now I'm back to fully buffered and not completely baffled where the money went. That explains why the checking account balance wasn't as high as I thought it should be.
As of 2/7/13: Projected loan payoff with no extra payments: 8/2020
With $70 extra per month: 11/2018
With $100 extra per month: 5/2018

Whoa, guess that would make quite a difference wouldn't it?! Definitely sounds like something I would do though.

I've done that a time or two... ha ha! Glad you figured that out.

One time this month I budgeted for my homeowners insurance monthly bill, but accidentally missed typing a decimal point, making it ten times the usual amount. It took me quite a few minutes to figure out why I was so strapped for money for my other categories :o

There are a whole lot of points along this process where one can go wrong (and I do), that's for sure. Numbers and finances aren't my strong point anyway but I usually work it out somehow. Sometimes it's like a little mystery I have to figure out :P
