Upgrading from Basic

YNAB Basic was discontinued on December 31, 2009. You can still try your luck at getting questions answered here, but we all highly recommend you look at upgrading.

Upgrading from Basic

Hi - I'm new here. I've been reading through the tutorials etc. for about a week now, and I'm anxious to get started! If I purchase Basic now (I'm on Macs), is there a discount on 3 when it comes out?

Rose is correct; I was wrong. See this thread http://www.youneedabudget.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=5688 for pricing.

Aha - thanks. I wasn't sure of Basic vs Pro vs 3.

I'm not sure that's correct. It's free to upgrade from Pro, not from Basic, but the difference to upgrade is reduced if you have the Basic now.

You're right, Rose. I've edited my prior post and included a link to the pricing thread.

To be clear, people purchasing Basic now pay $49.95 (the same as Pro now), and will receive YNAB 3 free when it's released.

People used to pay $24.95 for Basic, and then another $24.95 for Pro. We simply increased the price to make it the equivalent since YNAB 3 is on its way.

Ok - that's good news and makes sense. Thank you.

Next question - I live in a rural area with nothing but dial-up available (very pathetic), hence the attraction of an off-line program. If I purchase by download onto my work machine, can I copy the program onto a second machine so I can use it at home and at work? I'd like to download it today, but if copying it onto the home machine isn't possible, I'll have to purchase the disk.

I have very easily transferred/copied the file from one machine to another - just copy the installation file.

So long as it is for your personal use only it is covered under the purchase.

Thanks for your help, Rose et al. I downloaded Basic this morning and now have it on my home and work laptops, via iPod. I'll be working on setting up accounts and entering information this week. I feel so .... optimistic! :D
