In-Kind Purchases (IOU/UOMe + eventual cancel-out/repay)

Postby kitkat » Sun Dec 27, 2009 2:03 pm

Hi all,

Well, I got the whole "I bought you this, but you owe me money for it!" / "Thanks for buying me this; I owe you money for it!" thing settled for YNAB Basic, but now I'm trying out YNAB 3.

I can't figure out the most time-efficient way, in YNAB 3, to make sure:
-all reports show up as accurate,
-if, say, I'm doing this w/ my landlord, it still looks like I still "spent" the same amount on rent as I did any other month even though I actually wrote a smaller check to her,
-etc.

I'd love to hear what others do. Thanks!

Sincerely,
KitKat

The theory in YNAB Pro/YNAB 3 is the same as in YNAB Basic. In fact, I wrote my response on the thread you cite thinking in terms of Pro, and didn't notice it was the Basic board until you replied that the transfer took "only" 2 register lines, and I was thinking, "But a transfer only uses one line . . ."

Either cash or checking should work OK.
