YNAB You Need A Budget

Hi all!

I have a question about the outflow and category balance for the savings on budget. Because I have failed to adhere to my budget, which I'm fully admitting and obviously taking responsibility for, I've had to transfer money from savings to checking to cover my overspending. Now, my question is, when I transfer from savings to checking, why does this not show up in my outflow and decrease the category balance of my savings account? How can I get this to reflect the amount I am transferring from savings to checking or withdrawing from this category.

For example, I had a category balance of $201.27 but had to withdraw $80 to cover overspending in my checking so the category balance should be $121.27 but is still reflecting $201.27. How can I get the outflow to reflect the $80?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!!

Budget -80 to that category to free up the money... and then you can budget it towards what you need to.

So, I don't need it to be reflected in the outflow column? It just seems like it would be more accurate if it was reflected in the outflow.

Outflow is money that you've spent. This is money that you transferred from one area of your budget to another, so that you could spend it there. If it was in the outflow column for both your savings category and whatever category you spent it in, you would have recorded that you spent the same money twice.
