YNAB: Why I love thee, also: hello, I'm new :)

Err, hello :)

Please forgive me if this is the wrong area to post this. I didn't see a specific area for "new member introductions".

I'm a 24-year old engineer and I just found YNAB about three weeks ago. So far, I'm using the demo version of YNAB pro, but I will be budgeting in the purchase of the software using YNAB itself!

I first found YNAB in the search for a robust budget-making application. My own Excel spreadsheet budget I made up was very cumbersome, and didn't really help me allocate my money very well, but it was a start.

Since starting using YNAB I have become increasingly interested in personal finances, so I started doing research about how to reduce bad spending habits, increase savings, etc. Somewhere in there, I found out about Dave Ramsey, and started reading everything I could. It was a real eye-opener, and my life has really changed in the last three weeks! I feel very aware of my money now, and what I need to do to get where I want to be. It won't be easy, though.

I'm loosely following Dave's 7-step program while also using the YNAB Rules. In the few weeks since I started I've managed to put a lot more into my buffer than I thought I had available. Pretty soon I should have my buffer in place, and can start knocking down my debt. :D

I just wanted to say hi, and say that I'm looking forward to learning even more from the YNAB forums. :)

;) I'm glad someone got the reference! Most people have no idea (which is fair enough - not everyone is into Norse mythology.) :D

I can't say I know all about it, but being a Viking reinactor, I know a little bit! Too bad you live in Canada - we go to events all over the northern east coast, but not all the way up to Canada since the millenium celebration in Newfoundland/Lans Aux Meadows (I know I'm botching that spelling!)

At least you didn't pick Jormungandr to be your user name! I'd be a little skeered of you if you had... Perhaps you should have picked Mjollnir! Hammer out that budget! ROFL Ok, yeah, sorry. Couldn't help myself...
