While I understand many people on this forum about the pricing, he had to make a decision and frankly, this is far better than Quicken as it will save you the extra $20. Come on folks, we are talking $20 or even $40. Today, I blew $4 on a single starbucks coffee. One week of those and this thing is paid for! I wanted to whine as well, but after I burnt my mouth on my hot coffee, the price didn't seem so bad for $35!

Starbucks coffee $4
Lunch Fast Food $5
Soda $2

Shoot, this is just one day. In a single week I would have blown through my $35 upgrade price and would not have blinked an eye.... come on folks!

Please note that not everyone blows $11 on food every day. We haven't eaten out, bought a soda, ordered pizza, etc. for months. We are watching EVERY PENNY, squeezing our grocery bill down to the bare bones, no entertainment $, sold things that my husband and I loved, no vacations - - - I can continue on. Why are we doing this? To finally get out of debt. Is it worth it? YES!

I think the debate has been well played out. Yes, it seems that the only ones of us who felt misled are the ones who purchased in August and the rest of the YNAB world has done a good job at trying to shame us since we felt the price was too steep. I'm not mad at Jesse. It seems like he is a good guy trying to do the right thing. Will I not upgrade? No. I will just have to either 1) wait or 2) pay out of my "blow" money, which is a whopping $25/month.

Just PLEASE don't try to chastise me because I am upset that I will have to pay $85 for a product that I could've had for $50 just a couple of weeks later, when I had been reassured many times that the timing of my purchase would be taken into account for the upgrade.

Not everyone has the luxury of blowing $35 on fast food a week, so don't insinuate that I am overreacting. (i.e. "come on folks!")

Hi there,

This has been such a hot discussion, I haven't been able to read every post. However, I wanted to say that if beta testing were to be a private pool, as a previous poster suggested, that I'd like to be a part of it, perhaps you could use extra mac testers?

I'm especially interested in the beta test since it seems "YNAB Basic" isn't available at all (compatible with mac). I'd be happy to provide the beta feedback just to get started sooner. 'Till then, I'll just keep fussing with my overworked spreadsheets.

Also a quick chime in also that I appreciate the forums and the community wealth of knowledge that is shared so freely. Truly remarkable.Thanks.

overandout,
a.

I also don't have those exorbitant sums to blow on food each day so I recognise exactly how you feel in response to that post. But if you go back one, or maybe 2 pages in this thread, Jesse has asked those who feel that they have not been treated fairly on this to email him, and put his email address in there typed out in full to avoid spiders and the like that trawl for them on forums like this. Please do check back for it and consider what he can do for you, because I know that he does not want you to feel you have been mislead.

So, I bought Ynab in August, I am the lucky one who gets to pay all over again, thanks, no discount for buying the first time and no reduction for upgrading. Very disappointed, I was hoping for a a 10.00 to 20.00 upgrade price.
As usual, I get screwed.
Not happy.
So where do I click to get this beta version???

The beta is not available yet. But to address your other concerns, Jesse wrote this earlier in the thread (which you may have missed since the thread has gotten quite long)

jesse wrote:
To those that feel misled

I've re-read the posts of concern several times and I must say that I can absolutely understand where you're coming from. You're not upset about the pricing policy, you're upset by the fact that you acted on bad information that I provided earlier -- period. I don't mean to sound overly dramatic or anything, but when you say that my words regarding the policy "misled" you then that issue suddenly moves from the gray area of pricing to the black and white area of integrity. I said the words that misled. I should have been much more thoughtful and careful. With black and white issues such as this, the solution is obvious that it needs to be made right. If you feel you were misled (even if you haven't posted here), please email me at jesse at youneedabudget dot com and let me know what I can do to make this right for you. I'll make it right.

Please email Jesse and share your concerns. I have found him to be a stand up guy and I'm sure he'll address your concerns directly.

I made the mistake of using a horribly vague word: "fair". I probably said it dozens of times here on the forums and I know Steve, our support guru (under my direction) used the word "fair" probably hundreds of times in responding to inquiries about pricing. That was completely naive of me to think that everyone's definition of fair would fit my definition of fair. Looking through my lens all I see is development costs -- it skews my perspective substantially when I think of fair! Again, that was a very poor choice on my part.

That's why "fair" is one of the four-letter words my daughter was forbidden to use when she was growing up.

Congratulations to you, Jesse, for recognizing your error and acting on it so forthrightly. If it had not been recently so badly devalued, I'd recommend you for a Nobel Peace Prize

Seriously, folks, while I sympathize with those who have felt ill-used by having relied on Jesse's predictions about a policy that was not yet in place at the time he made them, please remember two things:

1. He has said he will make things right, according to what you tell him it will take to make them right. If he fails to do so, I invite and expect you to tell us.

2. Jesse posts to these forums prolifically and in addition to all the other work he does for his company. He is not a flack or PR guy. I think he does it because he recognizes the value to YNAB of a cooperative, mutually involved relationship with his customers. (Maybe he's a good guy, too.) But the consequence of that is that all the things he says can never be given the careful vetting and prior analysis that a press release from the MS Public Information office can. So, like business reporters reading in to which briefcase Alan Greenspan was carrying a hint as to what the prime rate would be, we dissect and discuss, especially with hindsight, Jesse's every statement. As Freud is alleged to have said, "Sometimes a cigar is just...a cigar".

Is this necessary then also? Had it not been pointed out by your quote, I would have never seen his comment.

I believe that Jesse has been overly fair. He easily could have thrown a price tag of $100 on it for everyone and said take it or leave it.

Just keeping it civil buddy. Those comments are not appropriate here. You never know who's reading these forums. And yes, Jesse is a stand up guy that I have no problem purchasing anything from him. His team's work is definitely commendable. That's for sure.

Jesse,

I have never been this excited about a new program coming out since PC's became the norm. You have definitely earned your keep on this one.

Even my just turned 18-year-old son has asked me to set up a YNAB file for him. To bad you didn't come out with this back in 1984 when I was 18 myself.

Maybe I'm dumb or just not reading clearly, but exactly which link do I follow for the beta deal?

I'm an existing customer of ynab pro. Do I click on "buy ynab"?
Or is there a link to "buy the Beta of YNAB3" or "Participate in the beta program"?
