For all existing Pro and Basic customers, you'll be able to purchase beta access for $34.95. Beta access is obviously limited to the beta period, so there's a bit of incentive here to get in early at this very low price. You can still purchase at this price if you don't want to run beta software and just want the lowest price possible. (YNAB Pro customers that purchased on or after September 1, 2009 will be included in this group at no cost, being grandfathered in because of their recent purchase.)

Dang! Missed the free upgrade by 24 days! It's hard to be too frustrated, since for the first time since I started working regularly I'm actually saving money every month. I've had two "extra" paychecks since August 7th when I bought this program, and I've managed to save almost all of the money from both of them! I guess i can re-invest one percent of that savings into the next version of the software. It's tough to let any of that money go though. This software has turned me into a cheapskate! :D

Just to be perfectly clear, if I sign up for the beta I'll get early access to the software as a beta version AND the upgrade to the final release of 3.0 included in that price?

looks like it's this:

Soon-to-Be Customers that Have Been Waiting Forever as well, that want Beta Access
For those people who are simply waiting for YNAB 3 and haven't purchased YNAB Pro or Basic, you'll be able to purchase beta access for $49.95

Or you can purchase Pro now, and have a free upgrade to the beta version & final ynab 3.

I'm not unhappy with the pricing structure .. but I will note that I don't think I've ever seen a company charge people to beta-test their software. ;)

Okay, if I wait for the beta access...is 49.95 all I have to pay, or do I pay for upgrade?

If I purchase Pro now, do I really receive a free upgrade to final version??

I guess I'm asking if there are two costs involved or if the upgrades will be free?

I hope I get chosen for beta testing!! My boyfriend and I love this software. His day job is testing with a testing company. My day job is a programmer. We would be great assets to the testing. I actually reported a bug in the Excel version of the software, but we have since upgraded to Pro.

Thanks,

As a Mac user I am so excited for YNAB 3 to almost, finally be here. Just a question about using the beta. . . What are the pros/cons to doing so? I am not very tech savvy, so please bear with with me. I am assuming that the beta is a kind of "trial" version that might or might not have all of the bugs worked out of it. If I do use the beta, (after buying the YNAB pro version and upgrading) will I have to pay again for the final version of YNAB 3?

Yes Quicken upgrades are expensive. And yes I should have been more savvy and not assumed the meaning of ambiguous terms. But please forgive me if I am a little less than excited about the price. I think I also have a point here. But I will move on... Lesson learned.

I think it's fair to be disappointed at the price. I know based on the prior posts from Jesse that I expected a tiered upgrade price based on when you purchased. I expected, having bought back in January, that I was going to be paying the full upgrade price. But I recommended to many people to go ahead and buy whenever since the upgrade price was probably going to be based on when you bought.

That said, I also understand the other side of the equation. If you're going to have a fixed upgrade price, you have to pick a date. Someone is going to be on the wrong side of that date. Doing tiered pricing based on purchase date can be messy, so a fixed date is really nice. And Jesse DID let everyone know that September 1st was the magic date a few weeks ago.

In the end, I think the product will be well worth the money, whatever price you pay. It's just a bit disappointing that the price couldn't be tailored a bit better for people who bought between say July 1st and September 1st.

If you purchase Pro now, you'll pay $49.95, get beta access for free, and get the final product at no additional cost.

If you wait for the beta version, you'll pay $49.95, and get the final product at no additional cost.

If you wait for the final launch, you'll pay $59.95.

So my question is, when will we be notified that we can purchase our "beta" upgrade at $34.95? The thread reads like we have to wait for an invitation to do so.

hello jesse--some questions: for us non-techies, what is the difference between beta and the 'final' version? what are pros/cons of beta, aside from the saving $5? is the price to be paid for ynab3 a one-time amount, or does it need to be budgeted annually? -jaime

I want to be on-board for the beta version. We use YNAB Pro but purchased before Sept. 1. Will there be an announcement as to when and how to sign on for beta?
