We have to fight this idea that because it’s about money, it has to be complicated. It doesn’t.
Julie and I have one checking account. It’s big. It houses our emergency fund and Christmas money and insurance premiums and our new car fund. It’s all in there. It’s simple and easy. When we need the money it is just sitting there. We don’t even think about it because it is the budget that guides our spending.
But I understand the tendency to create complication. I think it is natural and, even with the best of intentions, we make it so much harder than it needs to be—so hard I can’t even talk about it here, you’re just going to have to watch the video:
It doesn’t have to be so hard. Use the budget to make decisions. Trust the budget. Don’t think about your money so much. The end.
