He's the lead singer of Early to the Airport, a punk-rock duo whose other member is also a YNAB employee. Matthew is the author or coauthor of five books, including Pretty Good Number One: An American Family Eats Tokyo, which was a bestseller in Japan. He makes pretty good homemade pad Thai.
