The New Mobile App Is out in the Wild!

And my favorite feature is ...

You’ve probably heard, the new YNAB mobile app is out—and it has every single bell and whistle (a.k.a., “YNAB feature”). Yep, all of them. Hopefully, you love it. If so, we’d love it if you shared your review.… and if you haven’t downloaded the new app, yet? Go do that now (iOS / Android)!

So, What’s New?

Oh, just about everything. We’ve spent months designing, developing, internal testing and beta-testing, and we gathered a ton of feedback to deliver the new YNAB mobile app! There are so many great features and, today, I’d like to talk about some of my personal favorites.

#1 Bank Sync

Without a doubt, my favorite feature is bank sync. The ability to pull up my budget on my phone, while I’m standing in line at Wal-Mart, and see that new transactions are available for me to handle? Awesome. The interface makes it so easy to categorize transactions, to assign multiple transactions to the same category (all at once!), to clean up payee names. All the stuff that I used to leave for later, when I got to my desk.

#2 Bank Sync

I know, I already said bank sync … but it’s seriously that good. With a fully-functioning budget on my phone, I just do a better job keeping everything up-to-date. I don’t have to remember to log in to the web app to clean up my categories. I don’t get the feeling that, with each day, my budget is in slightly more disarray.I used to see my budget as a monthly task—that seems silly now! I’d accepted that sitting down to do a monthly reconciliation, in one big slog, was just part of budgeting. Now, I’m doing things on the go, and my budget is always current. It’s just so, so much better. We still have a lot to do, technically speaking, with YNAB’s bank reconciliation feature—banks make it brutal to get the data, but we’ll keep working on it, and we’re hopeful.

#3 Overspending

We don’t love overspending, but it happens (and, with Rule Three we can be flexible, right?). And now you’ve got more control over that flexibility. Wherever you are, you can look at your budget and proactively move money around to cover whatever you want. And, if you accidentally go over? Now you’re equipped to cover it, immediately, on your phone. That behavior change helps you increase awareness and really keep your budget in check, and it makes a huge difference.

#4 Reports

Finally, I didn’t realize I would like reports this much, but I do. It’s great to have the visual. The design looks great, and it’s fun to see the graphs moving up. Definitely check them out.

Enjoy, and Let Us Know What You Think!
