Work That Matters

YNAB is the best place to work, ever. (Don’t take our word for it! They voted and he said it!) We are intentional about creating an environment where everyone gets to do important work they love.

We have a team of truly awesome people and a culture that encourages the growth of every individual. We have one overarching requirement when it comes to joining our team: our Core Value Manifesto has to really click with you. If you’re nodding emphatically while reading it, you’ll probably really like it here!

Team meetups? Check! One time the Marketing team dressed up in random costume accessories and went to a fantasy roleplaying theme park where they joined the Pirate’s Guild, went on quests, and earned enough gold to sponsor the resident acting troupe. Because conference room presentations and trust fall exercises aren’t really our thing, you know?
  • Live Where You Want

Proximity doesn’t influence productivity so we all work remotely. As long as there’s a reliable internet connection, you’re good to travel or live wherever you’d like. Just share pictures so we can really hate you and your life of extravagant travel to exotic places.

  • No Outrageous Hours

We’ve adopted a four-day work week at YNAB and rarely work more than 32 hours per week. There may be times where things get busy and people put some extra time in, but then they take some extra time off, so it all balances out. We work hard and smart but we’re in this for the long haul.

  • Take Vacation (Seriously)

We have a minimum vacation policy of three weeks per year (five feels about right), and we will (kindly) bug you if you aren’t taking enough time off. We also have a two-week company holiday break every year! You’ll often see vacation photos posted in our internal chat room, creatively named #office_wall.

Sandcastle contests, Spikeball tournaments, whale watching, and cardboard boat racing in the hotel pool… the 2019 YNAB retreat at Laguna Beach was a blast.

Annual Meetups

Each of our teams (developers, customer support, etc.) get together annually for a super fun, but work-focused meetup. It helps us connect and build camaraderie, while doing some very cool in-person work.

We also get all the full-time folks together once a year. Best Western conference room, PowerPoints for hours, and lots of budget talk. Just kidding. One year, we were in Costa Rica. In 2018 we stayed at a dude ranch in Montana with an unforgettable trip to Yellowstone. We do really fun things, but the highlight always seems to be just hanging out. (And, if we’re being totally honest, board games.)

Our team is spread all over the world, including Switzerland, Argentina, Canada, the United Kingdom, and all over the United States. We currently set up team members who live in the U.S. and U.K. as employees, and those who live in other countries as independent contractors. You’re an equal part of the team no matter where you live.

For full-time W2 employees in the U.S., we offer fantastic health, dental, and vision insurance, where we cover 100% of the premium for you and your family. No need to check your vision, you read that right—100%. Although if you did need to check your vision, NBD, we’ve got you covered!

For full- and part-time W2 employees in the U.S., we also have a Traditional and Roth 401(k) option. YNAB matches your contributions up to six percent, and the money is yours immediately. No vesting period. (Actually, no vests at all. Vests are forbidden.) For U.K. employees, we also contribute six percent to your pension.

We also offer generous paid parental leave for all full-time team members. (Here’s to increasing the world’s budgeters, one child at a time!)

We offer profit-share bonuses twice a year—if YNAB wins, everybody wins. Everyone also gets birthday and holiday presents. We get ideas from your 50-item bucket list, your spouse, your best friend, your mom, your manager … you get the picture. No boring gifts here.

If you ask our employees about the benefits of YNAB, they’ll mention the culture, the minimum vacation, and the great people, but most of all, they’ll talk about how significant it is to be working on a product that makes such a huge, positive difference in people’s lives. Turns out helping people reduce their financial stress makes working at YNAB really, really enjoyable.
